This blog was created in May 2011to provide QUFA Members and other Queen’s community members with timely labour information. It is now inactive, but will remain online indefinitely as an archive and as a resource to other employee groups facing a possible job action.
The Queen’s University Administration unilaterally filed for conciliation on 7 June 2011. Conciliation continued through 22 July. On the morning of 25 July, the Administration requested a no-board. QUFA received notice on 2 August that the no-board report was released with an effective date of 29 July. This meant 15 August was the date when a legal lockout by the Administration or strike by QUFA could occur. QUFA entered mediation with the Administration on 11 August. Four days of mediation followed, during which time there was a news blackout. A tentative agreement was reached on 15 August. QUFA members ratified the agreement in an e-vote which was took place August 25-27. On August 29 the Queen’s Board of Trustees voted to ratify the new agreement, which is now in effect.
