Academic Freedom – A Statement and a Response
Dear QUFA Members,
This is an important message regarding your Academic Freedom.
The AUCC (Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada) adopted a new Statement on Academic Freedom in October to which Queen’s was a signatory. It differs significantly from the AUCC’s earlier Statement on Academic Freedom and Institutional Autonomy, raising serious concerns about what university administrators believe would be defensible in the name of academic freedom.
The CAUT has prepared a response to this new Statement and we urge you to read it.
QUFA will continue to vigorously defend its Members’ academic freedom rights.

Sincerely,
Paul Young
QUFA President
