MESSAGE TO ADJUNCT 1'S

The Queen’s University Faculty Association (QUFA) is now the certified bargaining agent for Adjunct 1’s at Queen’s University (as of May 2nd, 2003). Please see the Bargaining Unit Description at attached below. Contact the QUFA office if you are uncertain if you belong to the new union.

The next step is to negotiate a first collective agreement with the University Administration. Negotiating the agreement will take several months and may not be completed and ratified until the Winter term, 2004. Once we have a new collective agreement in place, the terms and conditions of employment will be governed by that agreement. In the meantime, teaching assignments and contracts for the Spring/Summer and Fall/Winter terms obviously need to be determined. You can negotiate and sign your contract letter as before. The terms and conditions of your employment may change when the new collective agreement is in place. You can ask QUFA now for advice and assistance with determining the terms of your appointment and employment at Queen’s. All queries are strictly confidential.

Work has begun on shaping an organization and collective agreement for Adjunct 1’s at Queen’s. Some of the provisions in the existing collective agreement for full-time faculty and continuing and term adjuncts may carry over into the agreement for Adjunct 1s. We will send out a survey in the fall to gather opinion on compensation, benefits and working conditions and organize unit-by-unit meetings. We are setting up an Adjunct 1 Advisory Committee and welcome your input and assistance. We need Adjunct 1 representatives for QUFA Council, Executive and the bargaining team.  Please contact the QUFA office if you have any questions or concerns or can help in any way.
