Announcements: Show your support for adjunct faculty during next week’s Fair Employment Week (FEW), October 17 to 21, 2022!

Fair Employment Week is the Canadian Association of University Teachers (CAUT)’s annual campaign to raise awareness about precarious employment on campuses and support local organizing to improve the working conditions of contract academic staff. Please take a moment next Wednesday and Thursday (October 19th and 20th) to stop by the tables outside the Mackintosh-Corry Hall Cafeteria to visit some of our adjuncts (Anya Hageman, Melissa Houghtaling, and Chantal Brunette) between 9:00am to 4:00pm. We will be drawing attention to the concerns of adjuncts at Queen’s and some of the adjunct and equity issues leading our bargaining mandate in this current round of negotiations.

CAUT has a two events scheduled next week, see below for dates and  registration links

Wednesday, October 19 // Keynote Address by Richard Bradbury

In the latest round of bargaining at Open University in the UK, contract lecturers won permanent contracts. Hear from Richard Bradbury – a member of the negotiating team – about how they won this historic victory. See the CAUT Event page for details.

Friday, October 21 // A Zoom social for contract academic staff

Contract academic staff from coast to coast are invited to an informal Zoom social to talk about the unique issues of CAS, discuss strategies to improve working conditions, and join together in celebration of the work and contributions CAS make to our universities and colleges. See the CAUT Event page for details.

In solidarity,

Melissa Houghtaling
Anya Hageman
