Fossil Fuel Divestment: Lessons from the University of California

Virtual Lecture and discussion with Dr. Clair Brown, University of California at Berkeley
Dr. Brown is a Professor of Economics at the University of California, Berkley, past Director of the Institute of Industrial Relations (IRLE) at UC Berkeley, and a Fossil Fuel Free UC member. Dr. Brown co-authored a report analyzing the financial risk associated with the California Public Employees’ Retirement System fossil fuel investments. She was active in the successful campaign that led the Regents of the University of California to agree to divest the system’s $13.4 billion endowment and $80 billion pension fund.
A response to Dr. Brown’s talk will be offered by Dr. Kyla Tienhaara (School of Environmental Studies and the Department of Global Development Studies) and Dr. Marcus Taylor (Department of Global Development Studies).
Lecture and Discussion 3:00-4:30 followed by informal discussion and drinks, in the George Teves Room, University Club.
