Tampon Tuesday – Donation Drive
March 3, 2020 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
Did you know that menstrual hygiene products are among the most requested items at local food banks and shelters, but the least donated?
This year, for the first time, a Tampon Tuesday event and collection drive will be held in the region, following International Women’s Week. United Way of Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox & Addington, in partnership with Bell Media, local Labour partners, and Queen’s University, is looking for community members to donate pads, liners, tampons, etc. – all are welcome donations. There are individuals who are vulnerable, with diverse needs when it comes to menstrual hygiene, and we know that many of you are eager to help.
Donations will be collected from March 3 until March 12, 2020 at the following locations:
- United Way KFL&A office, 417 Bagot Street: Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
- United Steelworkers, Local 2010, 154 Albert Street (2nd floor): Monday to Friday from 3 to 5 p.m.
- Secura Financial, 1375 Gardiners Road: Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Energetics Health and Fitness, 631 Fortune Crescent, Unit 11 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- Lennox and Addington Youth Hub, 41 Dundas Street, Napanee: Monday to Friday from 3 to 6 p.m.
For convenience, we also invite you to donate through our Amazon wishlist. Products can be ordered and will then be shipped directly to the United Way KFL&A office or donate online.
If none of these options work for you, please contact the United Way KFL&A office at 613.542.2674 or at firstname.lastname@example.org and a pickup or drop off can be arranged.
Tampon Tuesday event:
Bell Media, in partnership with the Egg Farmers of Ontario, will be hosting a special event on Tuesday March 10th from 5 to 7 pm at the Grizzly Grill in Kingston. Enjoy food, refreshments and interesting speakers. Admission to the event will be one box of menstrual hygiene products that will go towards the United Way KFL&A donation drive.
We hope that you can donate, arrange a collection in your workplace, or as a group. If you are collecting in your workplace, feel free to download this poster so people know where to drop off product. We will also be looking for volunteers to help sort products for shelters and agencies. Get involved and support those in need in your community!
About Tampon Tuesday
Started in London Ontario, Tampon Tuesday is a program about dignity. The grassroots movement began in 2009 and continues to grow as an opportunity to collect products for people experiencing period poverty. The program runs as a partnership between United Way Labour Programs and Services and Bell Media, and celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2019 with more than 40 participating communities.
